Season 3

The Stretch. â¤ď¸
Â
If you blinked and suddenly you have a young lady on your hands⌠welcome to season 3!
In this season, puberty is well underway. Her body may look noticeably different, her emotions are getting more layered, and the opinions of friends and the wider world may carry more weight.
Sheâs starting to think more about who she is, what she believes, and where she fits. And while she may look a whole lot more grown-up on the outside, she still needs plenty of reassurance, guidance, laughter, and connection on the inside.
Basically, she may look like sheâs got it all figured out. She doesnât. (But thatâs relatable, right? đ)
Â
Â
You might be noticingâŚ
-
Puberty has been rolling for a while now, and her body likely looks noticeably different than it did a few years ago. Her period may now be part of her normal rhythm, and sheâs likely becoming more familiar with the changes that come with it.
-
Her emotional world is getting more complex. She may be more sensitive to whatâs happening around her, more aware of how others perceive her, and more likely to wrestle with friendship, belonging, confidence, and what she believes. Sometimes sheâll know exactly how she feels. Other times? Not so much.
-
Sheâs figuring out who she is. Her style, friendships, interests, opinions, and the influences around her may all be shaping a bigger question: âWho am I?â She may try on new ideas, challenge things sheâs always accepted, or start deciding for herself what matters to her.
Â
A season, not a box
Puberty doesnât follow a neat little calendar, and Season 3 isnât defined by a particular birthday.
Some girls begin these changes earlier and others later. Different parts of puberty can also unfold at completely different rates.
Thatâs why this quiz looks beyond age and physical development. My Seasons of Puberty framework considers the physical, mental, emotional, relational, and hormonal changes that can happen as a girl moves through puberty.
Itâs not a medical diagnosis or clinical assessment. Think of it as a helpful snapshot of where your daughter seems to be right now.
And hereâs something I really want you to remember:
She isnât behind. She isnât ahead. She is exactly where God created her to be.
Â
What she needs from you right now
She needs a mom who is willing to shift from managing her world to building a relationship based on trust.
Â
Sheâs discovering her sense of self! She wants to figure out what makes her her, while still wanting to fit in with everyone else. She may question things you never thought sheâd question, want more privacy, or seem to need you and not need you approximately twelve times in the same afternoon. đ
Â
Let her explore without assuming you have to agree with everything she thinks.
Â
You donât have to solve every problem to let her know youâre available. You donât have to turn every question into a teaching moment. And you definitely donât have to have the perfect words ready to go.
Â
Stay curious. Ask what she thinks. Listen before jumping in with your perspective. Make room for honest conversations, even when you donât see things the same way.
Â
You donât have to have all the answers to be someone she trusts with her questions.
Â
Connection matters here
This is an important season for your relationship.
Her world is getting bigger, and sheâs beginning to decide what she thinks, what she values, and who she wants to become. Your influence wonât come from having the loudest voice in the room.
It will come from being someone she trusts enough to let into the room.
So keep making space for the real conversations. The fun ones, too. Ask what she thinks. Listen when she wants to talk. Be willing to say, âI donât know. Letâs figure that out together.â
And remember, connection isnât about keeping her from growing up.
Itâs about giving her a safe place to grow.
You donât need to have this season completely figured out. And neither does she.
Keep showing up. Keep listening. And always keep the door open.
